Mehreen Faruqi: First Muslim Female Parliamentarian in Australia

Sydney: A Pakistani Born migrant Mehreen Faruqi has become first Muslim lady to enter in Australia’s Parliament, International Media Agency Reported. Mehreen was migrated to Australiaalong with her family in 1992. New South Wales Greens has chosen her for upper house. She has been selected to represent Greens, a center left party.

Mehreen is an environmental engineer and university lecturer. Mehreen will be taking charge of this position by July 2013. She also told media that she is part of “Greens” for 10 years. She has participated in many activities. Multicultural support was one of major thing in this party which attracted me, she argued.
Talking to a foreign media, Mehreen boldly said that her religion will not influence on Politics. We are living in democratic state, we have secular system of government, she said. Religion shouldn’t play role in politics. Shockingly, Gay Marriage is one of major agenda of Mehreen.

KARACHI: The former staff officer and media coordinator of Zaid Hamid, Emaad Khalid said on Wednesday that Hamid had hatched a plot to assassinate Army Chief General Ashfaq Kayani.
During a news conference, Emaad Khalid said Zaid Hamid used to send text messages, emails and policy papers to 1,000 army officers claiming that General Kayani had sold out and was working for the Americans. He added that Zaid Hamid was instigating junior officers of the army to stage a coup against General Kayani and the federal government.Senior Journalist and Geo News anchor, Hamid Mir said the government was aware of Zaid Hamid’s conspiracies but no action had been taken against him.
Chairman of the Pakistan Ulema Council, Tahir Ashrafi called Zaid Hamid and enemy of Islam and Pakistan. Ashrafi called on the judiciary and government to take immediate notice of conspiracies being hatched by Zaid Hamid.

Malala Yousafzai was handed the EU’s prestigious Sakharov human rights prize.


STRASBOURG: Pakistan’s teenage activist Malala Yousafzai was Wednesday handed the EU’s prestigious Sakharov human rights prize.

To thunderous applause announcing the European Parliament prize, the assembly’s president Martin Schulz praised the 16-year-olds crusade for all children’s right to an education, saying: "You have given hope to millions of people."
Addressing the award ceremony, Malala said she was happy and honoured to be unanimously nominated and selected for the prize. “I dedicate this award to the unsung heroes of Pakistan and people all over the world fighting for basic human rights.”
Malala called on the European Parliament to look beyond their borders and support countries were people were deprived of basic human rights. “If we leave millions behind we cannot succeed, even if we are the fittest.”
The 16-year-old education campaigner who was shot in the head by the Taliban last year, called for a shift in ideology in how a country would be considered powerful. “The ideology should not be based on military might but rather on literacy rate and equality. A country with talented and skilled people is the real Super Power.”
Malala continued with her message that education could change the world, saying that despite all challenges there was still hope.
The Sakharov prize for free speech is awarded annually by the European Parliament in memory of Soviet physicist Andrei Sakharov.
Malala first gained notoriety as a unanimous blogger for BBC Urdu about living under Taliban rule in Swat and the lack of education for girls.
Past receipts’ of the Sakharov Prize include Myanmar’s Aung San Suu Kyi and South African Nelson Mandela.
